Nikki: So we are to the finale.

Nikki: We officially finished season three.
Salina: Three seasons down.
Nikki: Holy moly.
Nikki: Where did time go?
Nikki: Selena?
Salina: I don't know.
Salina: I just don't know.
Nikki: So let's just chat for a SEC.
Salina: All right.
Nikki: What have you been up to?
Salina: Well, I guess probably the very biggest thing is that Casey and I celebrated our ten year anniversary DA.
Salina: At the very end of October.
Salina: Yeah.
Salina: So I think that's probably because I'm like, well, that was a happy time because I was on vacation.
Nikki: Your anniversary trip, not your wedding, ten years ago.
Salina: That's right, ten years ago at that wedding.
Salina: That was the last time I was happy.
Salina: I don't know that we don't really make that big of a deal of our just regular anniversary.
Salina: In fact, a lot of time times we usually wind up at like FrightFest or something.
Salina: Because really it's right before Halloween.
Nikki: I thought you'd been out of town, like the last three anniversaries.
Salina: No, I mean, unless you go leaf.
Nikki: Peeping in the northeast.
Salina: That was four years ago.
Salina: That wasn't for our anniversary either.
Salina: It was just a leaf peeping time, which happens to be around our anniversary.
Nikki: Oh, okay.
Salina: Unless I called it an anniversary trip then, and I don't remember.
Salina: That tells you how much I cared.
Nikki: I'm just kidding.
Salina: I care so much.
Nikki: So a pandemic later finally took a trip for your anniversary.
Salina: We finally took a trip for our anniversary and we went to San Diego.
Salina: Neither one of us had ever been before.
Salina: It's a real gap in our travel history.
Salina: So I don't know what to say.
Salina: Except for the only place I can think of that has more perfect weather than there is the rainforest.
Salina: That's the only other place where I was like, you think that rainforest is really humid, right?
Nikki: Feels sticky.
Salina: I didn't think so at all.
Salina: I've been to two rainforests and then both of them.
Salina: The weather was so perfect, I didn't understand it.
Salina: Like, it almost felt like it was like laboratory created or something.
Salina: Are you sure you weren't on a Disney ride?
Salina: But that's the only other environment.
Salina: But it never got higher than 75 degrees.
Salina: It never got lower than the high fifty s I didn't go with an itinerary, not really.
Salina: I just wanted to not have my life planned.
Salina: Because I bet you you can relate to this, but just like just have a moment in time where you could just really explore.
Salina: So I'd looked up a couple of things, but nothing like, too crazy.
Salina: I knew I had to have fish tacos because literally every time I would be like, I'm going to San diego, and they'd be like, you got to try the fish tacos.
Salina: I was like, Any fish taco?
Nikki: Anyone, anywhere?
Salina: And apparently that was it.
Salina: So I was like, actually, the very first thing we ate is we just popped in somewhere random and had fish tacos.
Salina: And they were delicious.
Nikki: They were good.
Salina: But Balboa Park, right?
Salina: I mean, this is like I didn't know a lot about San Diego, but I knew about Balboa Park, and I knew about the San Diego Zoo, which is incidentally, in Balboa Park.
Salina: I would just say that when it comes to that park, I cannot get over the architecture, which is, like, this beautiful mix of Mediterranean and this Spanish style, and you just kind of feel like you've been dropped in another part of the world.
Salina: And I will say, as a Southerner, just to get back to the crux of our podcast here, as a Southerner, California almost feels like you're in a different country in comparison to being here in Georgia.
Salina: Like, the plant life is different.
Salina: The land around you is different.
Salina: The architecture is not the same.
Salina: People are growing lemons in their front yard, which is amazing and wonderful.
Salina: I would love to grow citrus in my front yard.
Salina: It's just so beautifully different.
Salina: And you don't have to go through the pain of international travel, but you just kind of feel like you're a world away.
Salina: And I love that.
Nikki: Like, every part of California is different, too.
Nikki: San Diego feels very different from La.
Nikki: Which feels very different from San Francisco, which feels even very different from, like, Sonoma.
Nikki: It all feels different because California is such a big state.
Salina: Well, I'm sitting here going, yes, but I've been to San Diego, and I've been to areas in and around La.
Salina: But I have not extensively traveled California.
Salina: One of my dreams is to take a two week trip and do the Pacific Coast Highway.
Salina: It would be cool.
Salina: And they have, like, trains and stuff out there that you can do that are supposed to be really interesting, including, like, I think a glass top one, which would be really, like, going through, especially the north part.
Nikki: So did you guys go to Tijuana?
Salina: We did not do that.
Nikki: You did get some fish tacos in Tijuana.
Salina: That's probably where they would be the best.
Salina: No, but maybe if we go back again, I think we just like we were like, passports and a lot of stuff, so we didn't get quite that far.
Salina: And that probably would have been the benefit of doing a little investigating ahead of time.
Salina: But I have to say, actually, that I think my number one absolute favorite thing, hands down, for both of us, actually, was the zoo.
Salina: I've just never been to a zoo like that before.
Salina: Sometimes it's hard for me to go to a zoo because I feel like the animals look sad.
Salina: I've never seen such happy looking animals.
Salina: I was like, these animals look thrilled to be here.
Salina: And just everything was so pristinely kept, like all the grounds, not even a crap of paper on the ground anywhere.
Salina: And not like some BS snacks and stuff, like good snacks and good mills.
Nikki: For the animals or for you?
Salina: I'm going to assume for them too, but especially for me since I wasn't partaking in any of their mills.
Nikki: Okay.
Salina: And then cute, like zoo swag.
Salina: I was like, why is this stuff so cute?
Salina: And I don't even know.
Salina: Maybe I'm just, like, in vacation mode.
Salina: And I'm like, everything is just amazing.
Salina: And then I got to see a koala up close for the first time ever, and they're so cute.
Salina: And then I got to see a snow leopard.
Salina: That blew my mind.
Salina: There's, like, four in the world, and I mean, there's not really four, but it's, like, really small.
Salina: They're very endangered.
Salina: So I couldn't believe that I was sitting there looking at one and then not a snow leopard, but they also have just regular, plain old leopards.
Salina: And I went to go take a picture, and that leopard looked me right in the eye, and she said, I will eat you.
Salina: No, it was definitely a woman.
Nikki: Maybe she was trying to get her shot.
Salina: I will kill you.
Nikki: Sure she wanted to look good in your picture?
Salina: She looks straight through my soul.
Salina: I think that was the big stuff.
Salina: We did have a beautiful hotel.
Salina: We stayed at the Fairmont Grand Del Mar.
Salina: It's also, like Spanish style architecture there.
Salina: And it's just, like, so dreamy, just everything.
Salina: I could have just sat out there for hours and just been at peace.
Nikki: I'm looking at zoo pictures now and wondering.
Nikki: I wish I could show you these guys.
Nikki: They look like foxes with really giant ears.
Nikki: I don't know what those are.
Nikki: Lemurs, maybe?
Salina: Are they going like this?
Salina: No, I'm not sure.
Nikki: Then I can't turn my computer around.
Salina: I feel like I need to show you this picture of the snow leopard or the regular leopard so you can the regular leopard because it's home to.
Nikki: 12,000 rare and endangered animals.
Salina: Put your finger on it so it'll do the live at you.
Nikki: Yikes.
Nikki: See, she looks cheesed off.
Nikki: What were you doing to her?
Nikki: Well, first I see your finger pointing.
Salina: A man tried being rude.
Salina: I would never a male leopard tried to come on her side.
Nikki: That's what it was.
Salina: Not having it.
Salina: She, like, went on the attack mode.
Salina: It was crazy.
Salina: It was like, all happening above our heads.
Nikki: We could stand to learn a thing from her.
Nikki: No.
Salina: Well, and I want to say, too, from the koalas.
Salina: So one thing I did not know about koalas is apparently, like, every man had to have their own individual.
Salina: I keep saying man and woman, but every male koala had to have their own habitat because they fight.
Salina: But then all the women hang out together.
Nikki: Well, sure.
Salina: And they're all friends, and I just thought that was really there you go.
Salina: Everything ever needed to know.
Salina: They really are.
Salina: But anyway, so that's what I've been up to.
Salina: What have you been up to?
Nikki: Nothing in comparison to what you just talked about.
Nikki: Nothing.
Nikki: Not a thing.
Salina: We probably should have started with that.
Nikki: We don't talk about work on here intentionally, but I think that I've been very busy with work is the short version.
Nikki: It's been a very demanding few weeks, months while.
Nikki: It's been a very demanding time period for me at work.
Nikki: So that's been taking up a lot of time.
Nikki: But we've done, like, the Halloween thing, the getting ready for Thanksgiving thing, which we've talked about a little bit.
Nikki: So that's been kind of busy.
Nikki: We talked about how fall was a very busy time in just general life, but in parent world, most importantly in my entire life.
Nikki: We've got a new Taylor Swift album.
Salina: There you go.
Nikki: There you go.
Salina: Well, what do we need to know?
Salina: It's good because, you know, I don't do anything.
Nikki: I know.
Nikki: That makes me sad.
Nikki: It's really good.
Nikki: I hope this doesn't date the episode too much, but within a week of releasing the album, she had the top ten slots on the billboard.
Nikki: Top ten were all songs from her new album.
Nikki: For the first time in history, a woman occupied all ten slots.
Salina: I did see that, and that is amazing.
Salina: Good for her.
Nikki: It's a very good album.
Nikki: But yeah, no, when you talk about your trips, that's nothing.
Nikki: I have nothing exciting to share, but I'm just living vicariously through you.
Salina: That's not true.
Salina: Tell them how you got a really bad burn in San Diego one time.
Nikki: I did.
Nikki: It's true.
Nikki: I did.
Nikki: I thought the beach would be a lovely place to sit when it was slightly overcast.
Salina: Well, I did come back with some really weird bug bites from there.
Nikki: Yeah, that happened from the zoo.
Nikki: It was that snow leopard, probably.
Salina: She hated me.
Nikki: She really did.
Nikki: She unleashed her bugs on you.
Salina: She did.
Nikki: Well, you ready to get into it?
Salina: Let's do it.
Nikki: Okay, bar.
Salina: Now I'm testing the boundaries.
Nikki: Push it.
Nikki: Push it real good.
Salina: Baby, baby, baby, baby.
Nikki: All right.
Nikki: Sorry.
Salina: So, Nikki, as you know, we rate every single episode of Designing Women we.
Nikki: Do, complete with creative rating scales, which.
Salina: Sometimes is kind of tough.
Nikki: It is.
Salina: But, you know, because math is fun.
Salina: In preparation for today's episode, we also averaged our ratings.
Salina: And I want to ask you, what did you guess your rating would be?
Nikki: So I guessed my rating would be three feels too low, four feels too high.
Nikki: So I went with 3.75.
Salina: Okay.
Salina: I thought you would give me, like, a straight in the middle of that number.
Nikki: You would think so.
Nikki: That's not the way I roll.
Salina: But that's going towards the high side.
Nikki: I'm just saying it's airing that way, isn't it?
Nikki: It is.
Salina: And so what was it actually?
Nikki: It was actually a 4.16.
Salina: So specific.
Salina: Well, actually, what you guessed doesn't necessarily mean that's what you would have given it.
Salina: So do you think that that is commiserate with your impression of the season?
Nikki: I think it's close.
Nikki: So I think when we think about our rating scales, you and I maybe approach them differently.
Nikki: So when I think about the rating scale, I think of a three as like a matt episode.
Nikki: Like, I'd watch it again if I have to.
Nikki: A five is outstanding.
Nikki: The writing was great, the storyline was great.
Nikki: Anything below a three means I really had some major issues with it that.
Salina: We hold in common.
Nikki: Okay.
Nikki: So I think for me, I would have guessed thinking back on the season, not quite a four.
Nikki: When I start really digging into that and thinking about the season, I might have actually gone more like a four feels fine.
Nikki: A four feels fair.
Nikki: 4.16 is a little too high for what I would have said, but I went back and looked at all the titles of the episodes.
Nikki: I looked at our titles and just sort of refreshed my memory on some notes.
Nikki: And there were really some episodes I really did not love, but there were some episodes I really did love.
Nikki: So a four feels like, squarely between meh and outstanding.
Nikki: Does that make sense?
Nikki: Yeah, I sort of rambled a little bit.
Salina: You didn't ramble.
Salina: I think for me, it's like anything over a four, I considered it a really good episode.
Salina: Five is absolute perfection, which usually I only have a handful of those in a season because I think you have to keep five sacred.
Salina: Right.
Salina: Because if everything's touching five, then I feel like I'm not doing my job.
Salina: Somewhere in the three range means that it was watchable with some problems.
Salina: So I think that's typically how I feel on the three to 3.5 side.
Nikki: Yeah.
Salina: It's good to know that we're both this difficult in our head.
Salina: You're welcome, everyone, in case you were wondering.
Nikki: Difficult.
Nikki: It's strategic.
Salina: Oh, strategic.
Salina: Excuse me.
Nikki: What would you have guessed your average rating was?
Salina: So my guess before I did the math was a 3.43.4.
Nikki: Okay.
Salina: So watchable some problems.
Nikki: Yeah.
Salina: But it was actually 3.8.
Nikki: Oh, wow.
Nikki: Okay.
Salina: Whether or not this is, like, in line with how I would rate the season, what I would say is, on the whole, I think that season three was the best out of the seasons we've seen so far.
Nikki: I think I agree with that for me.
Nikki: Yeah.
Salina: So for that reason, I think a 3.8 feels fair.
Salina: I think this is going to probably resonate with what you just said, but basically for me, this one had really high highs and really low lows.
Salina: So I guess you could say I was surprised that the low lows didn't pull that score down.
Salina: And I think that's why I guessed what I guessed.
Salina: It wasn't necessarily that I was like, I think this season is a 3.4.
Salina: It was just me trying to do that long range thinking of everything I had scored.
Nikki: At this point, it was hard for me to remember back to some of those early episodes.
Salina: In the early episodes is when I thought we might be at a perfect season.
Salina: I got through to, like, episode five and I was like, this is a really strong season.
Salina: And then we hit episode six and I went, maybe not perfect, but let's.
Nikki: Just take it from here.
Nikki: Yeah, that's funny.
Nikki: Episode six was the first one.
Nikki: I gave a three.
Nikki: Everything to that point had been a four or five, but I only gave one episode under a three.
Nikki: And that was the most recent episode.
Nikki: Episode 22.
Nikki: I didn't hate any other episode as much as I hated that one.
Salina: Yeah, well, there you go.
Nikki: There you go.
Salina: That's ratings for you.
Salina: I told you about the time I gave Casey Tylenol PM on his way out the door to work.
Nikki: You just wanted to see how he was going to react.
Salina: No, I thought it was regular tylenol.
Salina: And then later on that night, I realized I'd switched up the bottles and.
Nikki: I was like, but he didn't tell you anything.
Salina: He didn't know.
Salina: So later on he wasn't curious why.
Nikki: He was sleep at his desk.
Salina: Well, I fessed up to it and I was like, yeah, I can tell him all P.
Salina: M.
Salina: Today.
Salina: And he was like, God, I was so tired.
Nikki: Oh, my gosh, that poor man.
Salina: And he was like, I didn't know.
Salina: He was like, I just thought maybe I didn't sleep well.
Salina: No, I dosed you.
Nikki: No, really, I robot you.
Salina: I was trying to get you out.
Nikki: All right, so for this next little bit, I thought it would be kind of fun to do our review of season three, but in less of a reviewy sort of way, more of a flash sort of way.
Nikki: Because we cover every single episode, like in some might say excruciating detail.
Salina: I hope they don't.
Salina: That might be their first and last episode.
Nikki: I was going to say some people who have moved on from us, people who listen to the show, love the detail with which we cover it, but we cover everything with pretty I feel like, a substantial amount of context and information.
Nikki: So I thought it'd be more fun.
Nikki: As we think back, as I was looking back for that rating segment we just did, I was thinking like, oh, my God, this was the season with Ursula.
Nikki: Like, I had totally forgotten that.
Nikki: So I thought it would be fun to do sort of a long range view of the whole season, but do it fast.
Nikki: Okay.
Salina: Mine is much like a summary.
Nikki: Okay.
Salina: That's not too far from the let's.
Nikki: See, is 60 seconds or less.
Salina: I time myself a few times.
Salina: If I go at a certain clip, the answer is yes.
Nikki: Okay.

Salina: Season three kicked off with a family trip to Florida.
Salina: But the travels didn't stop there.
Salina: We were also treated to a girls trip to Graceland in a women's wilderness retreat in North Georgia mountains.
Salina: LVT was serving up the laughs and the lessons from sexual harassment and self defense to fair wages and fair treatment for women in the workplace.
Salina: Season three also introduced us to some interesting new clients a millionaire cat nudist and a love interest for Suzanne.
Salina: Speaking of love, Charlene and Bill got engaged and almost literally handcuffed in matrimony.
Salina: Bernice nearly got hitched to marry Joe, and JD.
Salina: Called it quits.
Salina: But there was more than love in the air.
Salina: Julia ran for office at the start of the season and then ran over the First Amendment at the end.
Salina: Somewhere in between, she accidentally mooned nearly all of Atlanta society.
Salina: Anthony won homecoming representative and became a big brother to Tyrone.
Salina: Charlene joined and was freed from a cult.
Salina: Mary Joe contemplated breast implants and stood up for herself after getting mugged.
Salina: Suzanne exercised her Second Amendment rights, almost got her money back, and nearly became the owner of a circus.
Salina: Bring it on.
Salina: Season four.
Salina: Ho.
Nikki: 1 minute 61.
Nikki: Microseconds?
Nikki: I don't know.
Nikki: What are those called?
Salina: I don't know.
Nikki: Well done.
Nikki: Are you sweating now?

Salina: I'm hoping the snap is what got me to 61.

Nikki: Designing women season three.
Nikki: A real journey, I guarantee.
Nikki: This season covered everything from curtain hems to MLMs, from jealousy to potential felony, from a photo shoot to a political dispute throughout the season, julia got sued and found herself kind of in the nude.
Nikki: Suzanne hung out of a window with a rifle and with Reggie Macdawson, she did not trifle.
Nikki: Mary Joe and JD.
Nikki: Broke up, and after a traumatic mugging, she bowed up and sweet Charlene took a walk down the aisle, but only after she was handcuffed to her boo and an exotic dancer for a while.
Nikki: We can't forget Anthony, a serious college student on zippy up pills, showing off his leg waxing skills.
Nikki: Not a lot of Reese this season, which is for the best.
Nikki: You know how he makes me depressed.
Nikki: And I need way more Bernice.
Nikki: Her screen time needs to increase.
Nikki: All in all, this was a solid season.
Nikki: Most of the time there was a rhyme to the reason.
Nikki: Some of Julia's rants were a little off key for me, but at least we got a road trip to Tennessee.
Nikki: What's next for us in season four?
Nikki: No idea, but give me more.
Salina: 53 seven.
Nikki: I'm all sweaty.
Nikki: It's so funny how some of the same big moments came up in both of our reviews.
Nikki: I guess that makes sense because we were covering only a certain number of episodes.
Nikki: But like Bernice's wedding, Charlene's handcuffing.
Salina: Just funny.
Salina: Yeah.
Salina: I mean, we had a lot of the same things that sort of circled.
Salina: I was wondering I'm glad they were at least a little bit different.
Salina: I was afraid they might be exactly the same.
Salina: I'm glad you did a poll.
Salina: Very helpful.
Nikki: Thank you.
Nikki: You're welcome.
Nikki: I do these things for you.
Salina: And I'm glad that you made yours a review, since I just wrote a summary.
Nikki: Kind of a review.
Nikki: Wasn't really a review.
Salina: There was some review elements at the end.
Salina: Mine was strictly a summary.
Nikki: Well, you know what?
Nikki: I take away from that.
Salina: I was on a plane back from San Diego.
Nikki: I was going to say we covered all the bases.
Salina: Oh, that too.
Nikki: But we did it quickly and that's the part that matters.
Salina: I know.
Nikki: Yeah, that's what I want to know.
Nikki: Testing.
Nikki: Testing.
Nikki: Is your microphone turned on?
Salina: Oh, probably not.
Nikki: Perfect.
Salina: This season we did something new.
Salina: We elected to choose a winner or a loser for each episode.
Salina: And then, thanks to you, we had at least some kind of Southern representation in there.
Salina: So we've dubbed it the butterer of our Biscuits.
Salina: Or the server of our lumpy gravy.
Nikki: The butter tatter.
Salina: Yeah, that's what I said.
Salina: So what I thought we could do in this case is look at which three episodes buttered our biscuits this season and maybe a headline for each of those.
Salina: And then we'll do the same for Gravy.
Salina: Sounds lumpy gravy.
Nikki: Sounds like gravy.
Nikki: Gravy but smooth.
Nikki: Gravy smooth.
Nikki: Perfect.
Salina: So tell me which three episodes buttered your biscuits and like, a headline reason why.
Nikki: Okay, so episode four, getting married and eating dirt.
Nikki: I just so loved the concept of Bernice getting married and then to the person that she was supposed to get married to.
Nikki: It's like the male equivalent of Bernice, right?
Salina: They definitely had some things in common.
Nikki: They were both quirky, at the very least.
Salina: Very quirky.
Nikki: They each had a quirk and I thought that was just a stroke of genius.
Nikki: So I really enjoyed that episode.
Nikki: I also really liked episode ten, Mr.
Nikki: Bailey.
Nikki: Okay, so we talked a lot this season especially.
Nikki: I don't remember touching on this in previous seasons, but I really enjoy the absurd, like ridiculousness that makes no sense but still somewhat grounded in reality.
Nikki: And I feel like this episode was the definition of that, like, nonsensical, how did a cat wind up inheriting these things?
Nikki: And these women now have to decorate for him.
Nikki: But also when they dig into the fine details, it seems reasonable and it sort of makes sense.
Nikki: But it was just so crazy and silly and I really liked that.
Nikki: And then I think my last one is going to be controversial for you.
Salina: I know what it's going to be.
Nikki: Episode 21, the last humorously dressed bellboy in America.
Nikki: I know you had strong feelings and not the good kind, but I really, really liked it.
Nikki: I thought it was very funny.
Salina: Well, I mean, but you just said it.
Salina: You like all the absurd episodes and every single one that you mentioned is like pretty half cocked.
Salina: There's some consistency there no a time.
Nikki: Or two people have described me that way.
Salina: I don't think that's true.
Salina: I think that's probably true for me.
Salina: So don't be stepping into my territory.
Salina: Okay, so mine were episodes two, five and 19.
Salina: Episode Two The Candidate So for me, I really enjoyed this impassioned speech that we get from Julia when she runs for local office.
Salina: One so beautifully written and flawlessly delivered that it brings tears to my eyes every time I watch it.
Salina: She puts articulation to the same combination of frustration and deep love that I have for this country.
Salina: So it really hits me in all the right ways.
Salina: A sad bonus for its residents all these years later.
Salina: Episode Five his big Haas and Little Fosse.
Nikki: I knew that would be one of your tops.
Salina: This is probably my very favorite episode of the season.
Nikki: One of your tit tops.
Nikki: Tit tops.
Salina: Just a d*** funny episode.
Salina: Mary Joe's confidence edging on aggression from trying out different breast implant sizes is what I need in my daily life.
Salina: Bonus here because we finally get an Mary Joe centric episode where Annie Potts gets to show us her world class comedic chops instead of the emotional notes that we typically get from the episodes where she finally gets to be at the center of them.
Salina: It feels like it's always like focusing on her being a mom or problems with the kids or problems with her ex.
Salina: And it always has like, everybody else gets all of the funny bits.
Salina: And in this one, we got to see her be funny.
Salina: And it felt like it was a little bit of a better sharing around among four really incredible actors in all truthfulness.
Salina: And then it would be great if we got more Anthony centric episodes, for that matter.
Salina: Final one is the women of Atlanta LBT doing what she does best, tackling something truly terrible like the over sexualization and minimization of women in the workplace while making us laugh like h*** along the way.
Salina: Julius explosion over being asked to suck on pearls for a magazine spread about women owned businesses in Atlanta was both hilarious and well deserved.
Salina: It felt like she was speaking for all of us.
Salina: Bonus for the love letter style montage to Atlanta at the end.
Salina: So those are my three.
Salina: What about the lumpy gravy for you?
Nikki: Episode 22, which we just covered julia drives over the first amendment.
Nikki: We covered it in depth, but boy, that one really didn't do it for me.
Nikki: It's the only one under a three I had all season.
Nikki: Episode Six hard Hats and Lovers this is the one that had that whole set up where Charlene encouraged Bill to sew his wild oats and then she got all bent out of shape when he did, and it was just like, I guess it had to happen.
Nikki: I guess they had to have some sort of something in their relationship, but it was just such a stupid setup.
Nikki: Not absurd and silly, just stupid.
Salina: Yeah.
Nikki: And then the last one that was not one of my favorites was episode 13.
Nikki: One sees, the other doesn't.
Nikki: So this is the one where Suzanne starts dating a client who's blind.
Nikki: I had to look back, so I looked at all my scores when we did the last segment where we looked at ratings and I looked at some of the lowest scores, and that's sort of how I came to the lumpy gravy ones.
Nikki: And then I refreshed my memory on why I didn't like them.
Nikki: Right on this one, my notes were pretty clear that this episode was cheesy.
Nikki: And as I thought about it more and started sort of watching clips of it again, it is very cheesy.
Nikki: There's very much like after school moment kind of feeling.
Nikki: And then it set up this relationship which we're never going to talk about again, which could have been this really beautiful, wonderful thing, but it just serves this one moment in time and then we move on.
Nikki: And I think I've mentioned ad nauseam that that is one of the no no's in my TV books, is to talk about something and then never talk about it again.
Nikki: Drives me crazy.
Salina: Understood.
Nikki: Those were my threesies.
Salina: Well, mine were episodes six, so we do have one in Carmen in common and then also 14 and 21.
Salina: So hard hats and lovers So that's a crossover for our list.
Salina: I couldn't fall for this half hearted attempt to bring drama to Charlene and Bill's relationship.
Salina: I think I actually don't like it.
Salina: Doesn't need that.
Salina: This is a workplace comedy.
Salina: So more than anything, we spend more time in Sugar Bakers than anywhere else.
Salina: Would love for them to go outside that.
Salina: Room, but they don't a lot.
Salina: And so it feels like it's probably okay to not have drama unless the drama makes sense.
Salina: Odell or episode 14.
Salina: Loved the setup.
Salina: Didn't care for the execution of these rural star cross lovers.
Salina: That's when Charlene's brother comes to town.
Salina: Odell and then the last humorously dressed bellboy in America.
Salina: Sorry.
Salina: Episode 21.
Salina: We do have crossover.
Nikki: I was going to say we had crossover.
Salina: Just opposite, opposite list.
Salina: I thought this might happen, but oh, boy, my season low.
Salina: I just could not with our guest star who played the one and only Reggie Mcdawson.
Salina: Just was not delight.
Nikki: Just delightful.
Salina: Yes, just delightful to turn that off.

Nikki: This is always for our last two seasons.
Nikki: This has been one of my favorite parts of our finale.
Nikki: Finale is to talk about our favorite memories from the show behind the show.
Nikki: So the podcast, as we're pulling it together, what are our favorite memories?
Nikki: So why don't we just share them?
Nikki: Let's do top three and we'll just share them back to back.
Nikki: You can just mock me relentlessly.
Salina: Well, I can't help but laugh because there's a spot of light.
Nikki: It's just like one eyeball everywhere I turn.
Salina: So it makes you look like the villain character, especially since your eyes are so blue.
Nikki: What if I just put an eye patch?
Salina: Then you definitely wouldn't look like a villain.
Salina: But I just wait.
Salina: I'm waiting for you to be me.
Salina: And then also, I feel bad because I tried so hard to put something up to keep light out of your eyes.
Nikki: And it doesn't matter.
Nikki: Close.
Nikki: So one of my favorite parts of the season was our date night to see the Designing Women play.
Nikki: We had a nice little dinner.
Nikki: We stayed out a little later than bedtime.
Nikki: Of course, we had to record the next day, which was a little bit of a grind.
Nikki: But all in all, that's really fun.
Nikki: I told you that night I hadn't been out to an in town dinner and I couldn't tell you how long, maybe one or two in the last couple of years.
Nikki: But it just felt like such a special little treat.
Salina: That was wonderful nice.
Salina: It was.
Salina: Are we going to toss this back and forth?
Nikki: Tit for tat?
Salina: Well, so the first thing I want to say is that I didn't look back through anything before I did this exercise.
Salina: I did it straight from memory.
Salina: Okay.
Salina: The old memory banks.
Salina: What could I pull my own without having to remind myself, because to me, that means they really were important things.
Nikki: I feel like you're setting me up to be like and I couldn't remember.
Salina: A thing, and the whole thing was dog poop.
Salina: No, my number one is the same.
Nikki: As your number one.
Nikki: Oh, funny.
Nikki: Yeah.
Salina: So I called it our podcast on the road.
Salina: Our first podcast on the road.
Nikki: And I call it a date night.
Nikki: And I don't know why I called.
Salina: It a girls night.
Salina: We can go on a date night.
Nikki: I'm fine with that, too.
Nikki: I don't understand.
Salina: We should have gone to a more then because that looked like a date night spot.
Salina: But it was nice to get out of this makeshift podcast room and do something in the wild.
Salina: Just like we're always giving feedback to Designing Women.
Salina: Get out of sugar bakers, ladies.
Salina: Get out of sugar bakers.
Salina: But also, I thought the other thing that was nice was to see Designing Women fans in real life and how much the show and the characters mean to them.
Salina: I thought that was really special.
Salina: And by that I mean that they're like they're leaving the house, right?
Salina: They're going to do something.
Salina: I mean, on a Friday night, not firing up Netflix.
Salina: Well, I think that's what I mean.
Salina: There's so much content at our fingertips now.
Salina: We don't have to go to the movie theaters.
Salina: We don't have to go into the theater as often.
Salina: I'm not saying I'm for that.
Salina: I'm just saying that's really the way the world has turned, especially in the last couple of years.
Salina: So I think doing that, buying a ticket, going into the theater, dealing with Atlanta traffic, all of those things, it tells me that you really care about something.
Nikki: I do know.
Salina: And also, I just thought that theater was really cute.
Salina: And I will continue to say that every time for Horizon Theater.
Salina: Super cute venue.
Nikki: It's really cute.
Nikki: I took over social media management for a little while while you were out of town this year.
Nikki: You did?
Salina: That's true.
Nikki: That was a very fun experience for me.
Salina: I don't think that people know that I'm in charge of the social media.
Nikki: I know.
Nikki: I feel like we need to be a little more clear about that because every time Selena's out of town, I have this instinct to chime in and show like, what is it really like when Selena's not around to keep the ship together?
Nikki: Because me trying to figure out how to do Instagram stories or Reels got to help me.
Nikki: It's just like the wheels come off.
Nikki: It takes me about 14 tries to do anything.
Salina: Well, is that Nikki's fault or is that Instagram?
Nikki: Instagram does not love us.
Nikki: It's very glitchy.
Nikki: But that was really fun for me.
Nikki: Every now and then I have an idea.
Nikki: While we're recording or thinking about a segment, I have this idea that sort of crystallizes in my mind and that becomes like, I will do that one.
Nikki: But for the most part, yeah, Selena kind of keeps the trains running on that.
Nikki: And I still have to admit I don't understand Facebook.
Nikki: That's still very challenging to me because of the way the accounts are set up.
Nikki: Not that anybody listening to this cares, but Instagram is really fun to get in and play with reels and think of creative ways to do things.
Nikki: And so that was sort of a fun way to challenge my brain differently.
Nikki: And a constant struggle I have is staying present and being like right here, right now.
Nikki: And I feel like managing the social media requires that to an extent because you have to know what's going on.
Nikki: Like, we record these episodes in advance, which we have talked about before, so I don't always remember exactly everything we covered in that episode.
Nikki: So I have to refresh my memory and then I'm not great.
Nikki: I don't take a lot of pictures of food.
Nikki: I'm not very good about pulling my camera out when we're out on family excursions or whatever.
Nikki: That's a Kyle thing.
Nikki: So remembering to be present and take all those moments in in that way, it was a real struggle for me, but rewarding as well.
Nikki: So it was fun.
Nikki: Well, good.
Salina: I'm glad that you enjoyed it.
Nikki: I did.
Salina: And also it was super helpful because I was kind of gone a long time, so thanks for doing that.
Salina: And that was a time difference that would have been really hard.
Nikki: My thing with vacation is like when you go on vacation, I want anybody to be able to go on vacation and you can't be on vacation if you're doing things back home.
Nikki: It just doesn't work out.
Nikki: That's not vacation.
Salina: Yeah, it sort of depends for clarity's sake.
Salina: I wasn't the kind of person that took pictures of food and did all of that.
Salina: It's not my personality.
Salina: So that has been a real sea change for me and exercising a different part of my brain to pay attention to things like that in the moment and see what might be possible or interesting.
Salina: Because I think at the end of the day that's a lot of what we try and share is just pretty things or fun things or look how I saw this Southern thing out in the wild and try and queue up my mind for that.
Salina: It doesn't always work.
Salina: Doesn't always work.
Nikki: And anyone who wonders why content creators make the money that they make, they have not tried doing it themselves because it is a lot of work.
Nikki: It is a lot of storyboarding in your head.
Nikki: It is a lot of trying things and failing at things and trying something different next time and keeping up with trends because the algorithm changes literally weekly.
Nikki: It's a lot.
Nikki: But it was a fun experience for me.
Nikki: So when I think back on the season, I think about those couple of weeks.
Salina: Well, that's good.
Salina: My second one was extra sugars.
Salina: This might sound lame, I think it was extra sugars last time too.
Salina: But I mean, the truth is I.
Nikki: Just love to learn.
Salina: So whether it's you going and preparing to tell us about Southern national parks or I'm like I love it when you are preparing things or different Southern wedding traditions that we should know about but don't know anything about or whatever, that's all very interesting to me.
Salina: I just like to add things to the old arsenal.
Salina: So there's that side of it.
Salina: But the other side is doing extra sugars myself and being able to dig into things that I'm personally passionate about.
Salina: So this year looking at things like self defense or workers rights or the long term impact of Southern stereotypes like born out of the Hatfields and McCoy's, like, those kinds of things have been a little bit of a fascinating journey for me.
Salina: I like to get a wrinkle on the old brain, not on the face.
Nikki: I was going to say I feel like I have enough wrinkles.
Salina: Not on the face.
Nikki: I don't need any more of those.
Salina: How about number three?
Nikki: So we had and I don't know if this is tacky or not, but I'm going to own it.
Nikki: We had a few really big successes for the podcast itself this year.
Nikki: We hit some really big download milestones.
Nikki: We saw some really good engagement from listeners.
Nikki: So I was thinking specifically about listener Colleen who reached out because she got to go to Little Rock and she saw the Designing Women house and so she sent us some pictures.
Nikki: It was really thoughtful and it's really fun to hear from people who are just like it's pretty much like they're here in the room with us because it's so intimate to listen to a podcast.
Nikki: You put your headphones in and you listen to these voices on the other end and they're people we don't know.
Nikki: But it's nice to feel like they're part of our circle of trust, connected.
Nikki: Exactly.
Nikki: And so I feel like that's part of the reason we started doing this.
Nikki: And so it was just really rewarding this year to every DM we get and every email we get, I scramble for, because I just find them so exciting to hear that we've resonated with someone enough that they take that extra step to switch from the podcast screen to the email screen or to the Instagram screen and type out a message.
Nikki: It's just really nice.
Nikki: And so I think between that, between the milestones we hit this year, it just was a really big season for us, right.
Salina: Or even like people we know who reach out.
Salina: I think sometimes I'm not sure that that's not the same level of compliment.
Nikki: It's true.
Nikki: Because I don't have a single friend in my friend group that loves the show Designing Women.
Nikki: I'm just going to be honest it predates a lot of them, or they didn't have the same experience we did where our moms watched it and sort of passed it down to us.
Nikki: So this does not when they have free time to watch TV, they're not going to watch Designing Women because there's like you said earlier, there's so many other things competing for attention.
Nikki: But they still listen to our podcast and they still say, like, I heard this segment or saw you do this thing on social media, and it's nice.
Salina: Yeah, it is really nice.
Salina: My number three is recording days.
Salina: Yes.
Salina: Sometimes the preparation for the episodes and the day itself is hard at the end of a long work week.
Salina: But seeing everything come together has been so satisfying because sometimes it feels like a little bit of a grind just because it's like I mean, it's work, it's rewarding work, but it's work.
Salina: But seeing that, I can tell that some days it's made our day better.
Salina: When I see the weight of the world on both of us, some days that's a good feeling to see that.
Salina: Turn around right here in this room, right downstairs in the kitchen.
Salina: Like eating something delicious or just doing something fun, like having these themed recordings.
Salina: I did the Bachelorette party one, and you and I throwing confetti over our heads and just, like, running around like idiots downstairs.
Salina: It makes me feel, like, young and free in a way that hardly anything else in life has the ability to.
Nikki: Do anymore in a way that permanent neck crick won't allow you to.
Salina: You mean how my back went out two weeks ago and I couldn't get up out of the bed?
Salina: That was cool.
Salina: Yeah.
Salina: Or eating s'mores in a tent in my backyard.
Salina: There's no other reason I would do that.
Salina: It's something I would say I would do.
Salina: I would look at Casey for, like, two years and be like, you know, we should do we should throw up the tent in the backyard.
Salina: But I'll never do it because there's never, like, a catalyst.
Nikki: Sure, couch is a lot more comfortable.
Salina: The couch is right there and there's no mosquitoes.
Salina: But we did it.
Salina: We did those things, and it was a real joy.
Salina: And the truth is that what anyone listening to the show needs to know is that Nikki is always game for the nonsense that I suggest.
Salina: I'm so thankful for you and your good attitude about it all and the chance to be creative.
Salina: And the last shout out that I want to give is that right now, while my downstairs is in complete tatters and the only thing I could offer her is a cube of cheese and an olive.
Salina: I told her that I would get together, like a deli meat tray or something for us, and she offered to bring food for the recording today and said I can't promise anything fancy, and brought nothing but fancy things, including piping on cream cheese onto the top, beautifully onto the top of cucumbers and making buffalo chicken on celery.
Nikki: I'm not extra the cream cheese needed to be piped on that way so that it would taste good.
Nikki: If I had just slathered it on there, it wouldn't have tasted as good.

Salina: You eat with your eyes and then also Thanksgiving meatballs.
Salina: And she brought along delicious Christmas snacks and to get us started off in the holiday weight gain and I mean season, because I can't stop eating it.
Salina: And just all these wonderful things.
