S8 E6 - Golden Girls: They Went There - When the Golden Girls Got Serious

In the hallowed halls of television history, most sitcoms could never make a storyline about a health scare from a little-known virus genuinely funny. Fortunately, as we’ve well established this season, “The Golden Girls” is not “most sitcoms.” In fact, its treatment of “heavy issues” is singular and we’re so excited to chat about it this week.

If you want to follow along at home, we’re going to talk in three themes, covering 7 episodes:

  • Illness/Stigma/Medical Dismissal

    • S5E1: Sick and Tired

    • S5E19: 72 Hours

  • Aging

    • S2 E20: Whose Face Is This, Anyway?

    • S3 E1 Old Friends

  • Social Issues

    • S2 E21: Dorothy’s Prized Pupil

    • S3E23: Mixed Blessings

    • S4 E8: Brother, Can You Spare that Jacket?

And, as always, thank you for being a friend!
